Who we are:
- We are members of the community just like you, we have full time jobs unrelated to crime prevention, but want to make a difference when it comes to the rapidly growing concern of auto theft.
- We are Volunteers
- We are regularly vetted by our local police agencies by getting background checks completed
- We are NOT Vigilantes
- We support the police, all thefts must have a police file number to prove it was reported stolen to the authorities as we believe reporting to them is more important than us
How It Works
- Register with us
- Report a theft
- We’ll keep in touch with you to check for updates if the vehicle has been found as we want to keep our database as up to date as possible, we hope that you would inform us if the vehicle is found., and we’ll do the same, if we see aid in locating the item/vehicle for police you will be contacted and informed
- You can update status in the My Reports tab on the right, and click edit.
Why It Makes A Difference
- By sharing basic descriptions of the vehicles stolen, it gives the public an understanding on how often it happens and may help motivate some to step up their game in being proactive
- By sharing the VIN/Plate from the theft to registered members, they are given the opportunity to watch for the vehicle andl report to police immediately if spotted
- Social Media, we share ‘Basic Descriptions’ of the vehicles stolen to our social media platforms (facebook & twitter) again to push public awareness, many people aren’t aware of how often vehicles are stolen.
Future Features:
- You choose if reports shared publicly (on Reportatheft.ca/facebook/twitter) or if it’s just available to our Vetted Members (observers)
- Ability to apply for upgraded status of ‘Observer’ and receive instant notifications of stolen vehicles. Note: A copy of ID must be provided as well as other potential details. Your ‘search’ history on plates/vins will also be tracked
